Ukrainians have issued over 2 million microloans since the beginning of the year: Opendatabot

In 2025, Ukrainians signed 2.17 million contracts with microfinance organizations for a total of 12.72 billion hryvnias. About this informs The opendatabase.

This indicator exceeds the results for the same period of 2024 by 8%. Despite the growth in the number of signed contracts, the average loan size decreased for the first time in two years — by 2% — and is 5,858 hryvnias. On average, Ukrainians take out 724,000 microloans every month — slightly more than last year (693,000 per month).

As of April 1, 2025, total indebtedness to microfinance institutions reached 24.28 billion hryvnias — twice as much as in April 2022, at the start of full-scale war. Only in the first quarter of the current year, the amount of debt increased by 4.3 billion hryvnias, or by 22%.

Unlike the previous NBU statistics, which indicated a decrease in debt by 2.7 billion hryvnias at the end of 2024, the updated data show an increase of 1.4 billion. In general, during 2024, debt to MFIs doubled — by 10.7 billion hryvnias.

The majority of users take out microloans with a term of 93 days to one year — their share is 63% and has hardly changed. At the same time, the number of contracts for one to two years increased 15 times to 3.6%.

The popularity of short-term loans (up to 31 days) also increased: their share rose from 14.5% to 24%. On the other hand, loans with a term of 32 to 92 days lost popularity — their share decreased from 16.5% to 3%.
