Umerov summed up the results of the second trilateral talks between the delegations of Ukraine, the US and Russia
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov summed up the results of the second trilateral talks between the delegations of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which took place on February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates. According to him, the meeting was another attempt to move the diplomatic process, which should bring an end to the war in Ukraine closer. Umerov reported this in a communiqué following the results of the trilateral peace talks organized by the United Arab Emirates.
According to him, the talks were held in a constructive format and focused on how to create real conditions for achieving lasting peace, and not just to fix a temporary pause in hostilities. One of the key topics was the specific methods of implementing the ceasefire, as well as monitoring mechanisms that should ensure control over the cessation of hostilities and reduce the risk of disruption of agreements.
Separately, Umerov noted that the parties were able to agree on the issue of the mutual release of prisoners of war: an exchange of 157 prisoners from each side was agreed. According to him, this is the first exchange in the last five months, which adds a practical dimension to the negotiations, as it is not only about political statements, but also about specific decisions that have tangible consequences.
He also reported that during the two days of negotiations, the delegations touched on a number of issues that remain unresolved and agreed to inform their capitals about the results of the discussions. In addition, the parties agreed to continue the trilateral meetings in the coming weeks, indicating the intention not to stop the dialogue and to keep the negotiation channel open.
