UN suspends some support programs in Ukraine

The UN has suspended the provision of financial aid in some regions of Ukraine due to the reduction of support from the United States. About it at a briefing in New York stated UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

“I want to start by expressing my deep concern about the information that UN agencies and many humanitarian NGOs have received in the last 48 hours about the significant reduction in funding from the US. The consequences will be dire for vulnerable people around the world. In Ukraine, programs with direct payments to victims – the main part of the humanitarian response, which will reach 1 million people in 2024 – have been suspended in key regions.” Guterres said in a statement.

He said funding cuts to programs would make the world “less healthy, less safe and less prosperous.”

“I can only hope that these decisions will be overturned based on a more detailed review. And this call also extends to other countries that have recently announced reductions in humanitarian aid and development.” – concluded the UN Secretary General.
