US aircraft attack ISIS camps in Syria
The United States has carried out a series of airstrikes against the facilities of the terrorist group “Islamic State” (ISIS) in Syria, trying to weaken the extremists’ ability to organize new attacks in the region and beyond. This was reported in the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM), as well as in published ABC News. The operation was carried out on October 11.
The CENTCOM statement noted that the main objective of the airstrikes was to make it impossible for ISIS fighters to carry out attacks on the United States, its allies and partners, as well as on the civilian population in the region. However, the military did not provide precise data on the specific areas of Syria where the ISIS camps that were struck were located.
According to the statement of the American military, as a result of the operation, the plans of the militants were destroyed, and their ability to coordinate and carry out terrorist acts was violated. The damage caused by the strike is still being assessed, but there are currently no reports of civilian casualties.
The fight against the “Islamic State” in the Middle East remains a priority for the American military. About 900 US troops are stationed in eastern Syria, working with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. These forces played an important role in the fight against ISIS terrorists.
Despite the significant defeat of the group, ISIS “sleeper cells” continue to be active in Syria and Iraq. The number of attacks by them has been increasing in recent years. In July, U.S. Central Command reported that ISIS was trying to regain activity and redouble its attacks after a relative lull in the Middle East.
