US missile shield base opens in Poland to shoot down Russian missiles

An important anti-missile defense base will soon be opened in the northern Polish city of Redzikovo, which will become part of NATO’s integrated air defense system. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski, in an interview for Radio Rebeliant, which quotes PAP agency.

Sikorsky emphasized that the base will be opened in the coming weeks, despite the skepticism of opponents who previously said that this project was canceled. He also clarified that during the negotiations it was possible to agree that the missiles placed at this base could intercept not only Iranian missiles aimed at the USA, but also Russian ones that could threaten Poland.

Official information about the readiness of the base in Redzikovo was made public during the NATO summit in Washington in July, when the then Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, announced its readiness to perform defense tasks within the NATO anti-missile shield.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has repeatedly emphasized the need to protect Ukraine from Russian missiles and drones, referring to the experience of the Middle East, where allies helped Israel shoot down Iranian missiles. He called on NATO partners to use similar mechanisms for Ukraine, but the allies have not yet taken such a decision.

Zelensky also noted that during the attacks on Israel, its allies did not leave it alone, and demands that the Alliance decide whether the value of human life is the same in all regions of the world. However, the Pentagon emphasizes that the situation in Ukraine and Israel is fundamentally different, and the shooting down of Russian missiles from the territory of Poland or Romania could involve the US in a conflict with Russia.
