US President Joe Biden pardoned his son
US President Joe Biden signed an executive order pardoning his son, Hunter Biden. The decision covers all cases filed against Biden Jr. over the past decade, informs CNN.
According to the publication, Hunter Biden was previously convicted of crimes related to illegal arms trafficking and tax evasion. However, now the official act of pardon cannot be revoked even after the change of power in the White House, when Donald Trump will take over the presidency.
The move caused an uproar because Joe Biden broke his own public promise. Previously, the president has repeatedly stated that he will not pardon his son and will not interfere in his affairs. Similar statements were made both before and after the end of his presidential campaign this year.
In June, Hunter Biden was found guilty of three felonies related to illegal possession of weapons. He was also defeated in the appeals court, which refused to stop consideration of the case of alleged tax evasion. Joe Biden’s decision caused a wave of debate in political circles and the public, as he had previously openly stated his unshakable position on the issue.
