US Senate approves new CIA director
The US Senate has confirmed John Ratcliffe as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, with the support of a majority of senators. About this informs “The Hill”.
74 senators voted for the appointment of Ratcliffe, 25 against. He previously served as director of national intelligence during the first term of Donald Trump. This is the second representative of Trump’s national security team confirmed by the Senate.
During the hearings, Ratcliffe assured Democrats that he would keep the CIA out of politics and not fire agency employees because of their political views or attitudes toward the president.
Ratcliffe’s candidacy received positive reviews from both parties, especially for his clear stance on China. He has long advocated the fight against the Chinese Communist Party, which became one of the key topics of discussion during the approval of his candidacy.
John Ratcliffe took over as Director of National Intelligence in May 2020, eight months before the end of Donald Trump’s presidency. Prior to that, he worked as a member of the US House of Representatives.
