US vice presidential candidate refuses to call Putin an enemy

During an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” program, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance avoided directly identifying Russian President Vladimir Putin as an enemy of the United States. When the host asked if Putin was an enemy or an ally, Vance called him an “adversary” and a “competitor.” The politician noted that the US should maintain a reasonable approach to diplomacy:

Just because we don’t like someone doesn’t mean we can’t strike up a conversation with them from time to time. I think it’s important that if we’re ever going to end the war in Ukraine, at some level we’re going to have to engage in negotiations between Ukraine, between Russia, between our NATO allies in EuropeVance explained.

The US presidential election will be held on November 5, at the same time as the congressional elections. It is known that the presidential candidate Donald Trump previously declared that he is ready to “withdraw” the United States from the war in Ukraine, calling this conflict “losing”. Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of “allowing” the war.

Trump has often repeated that he could end the war in Ukraine before his possible return to the White House if he wins the election, positioning himself as a leader capable of achieving peace through negotiations and diplomacy.
