US vice presidential candidates debate: key statements and positions
The debate of the candidates for vice president of the United States took place: key statements and positions
During a televised debate between the US vice presidential candidates, Democrat Tim Walz and Republican JD Vance sharply criticized each other over their differing approaches to foreign policy, although both agreed on the need to support allies.
Walz focused his criticism on Donald Trump, calling him a danger to the country.
“The world saw at the debate a few weeks ago that an almost 80-year-old Donald Trump talking about the size of the crowd is not what we need right now. But it’s not just that. Those who were closest to Trump understand how dangerous he is when the world is in such danger”, – said the candidate from the Democrats.
He also recalled that former White House chief of staff John Kelly called Trump “the most flawed person he’s ever met,” and noted that a number of former senior Pentagon officials said Trump should not return to power.
Volz also quoted Vance, who has previously expressed doubts about Trump’s fitness for the presidency. In addition, Volz emphasized the stability of the leadership of Vice President Kamala Harris and stressed that her team is focused on protecting the United States and its allies.
For his part, JD Vance defended Trump, noting that his presidency has contributed to global stability by creating an effective deterrent. He also blamed the Biden-Harris administration for their actions in allowing Iran to obtain weapons production funds.
Vance expressed support for Israel.
“This country has the right to decide for itself how to defend its country, and we must support our allies in their struggle.”, he said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, commenting on his recent visit to the USA, emphasized the importance of maintaining the bipartisan support of Ukraine from the United States.
