Uzhhorod will become the first regional center of Ukraine that will have rail connections with four European Union cities at once. reported this by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

“Uzhhorod became the first regional center to be connected with Bratislava, Košice, Budapest and Vienna thanks to the new railway line. Today, the opening of the section of the Uzhhorod Eurotrack – Chop”, – noted Zelensky.

He also informed that the next step will be the construction of the Eurotrack to Lviv. In parallel, the development of railway connections in other directions continues. The President thanked all railway workers and participants of the project, which was implemented in cooperation with European partners.

Vice Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba specified that the length of the new European track between Uzhhorod and Chop is 22 kilometers.

“From September 12, trains will depart from here to Bratislava, Kosice, Budapest and Vienna. Ticket sales have already opened today, September 5”, – he added.

According to him, the construction lasted exactly one year – from August 2024 to August 2025. The total cost of the project amounted to 1.3 billion hryvnias: half was financed by the EU within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility program, the other half by the European Investment Bank in the form of a loan.

“Electrification will start in the fall. Part of the expenses will be covered by the CEF, and the state budget for 2025 already provides 128 million hryvnias”, – clarified Kuleba.

The next stage involves the extension of the Eurotrack from Uzhhorod to Lviv and the construction of the Sknyliv – Mostyska-2 section. This will open a direct route from Lviv to Poland and other EU countries. The European Union has already allocated EUR 76 million in grant funding for these projects.
