Vasyl Lomachenko announced the end of his career

On June 5, the famous Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko, IBF and IBO champion in the lightweight category (up to 61.2 kg), announced the end of his sports career. That’s what he’s about reported in a video message published on Facebook.

“There comes a moment in the life of any boxer when he hangs up his gloves on a nail. In our history, this day has come. I thank God for all the victories and failures in the ring and in life. I am glad that at the end of my career, I came to understand in which direction a person should move in order to win – not in the ring, but to defeat the “old man” and finally win his reward”, Lomachenko said.

He also thanked his parents, family, psychologist Andrii Borysovych, manager Aegis Klimas, Top Rank company and promoter Bob Arum, USA — for the opportunity to realize himself, as well as all boxing fans from different parts of the world.

The last fight of the 37-year-old Lomachenko took place in May 2024, when he defeated the Australian George Kambosos. In total, in his professional career, he had 21 matches, 18 of which ended in victory and 3 in defeat.

Lomachenko was also the world champion in featherweight (up to 57.2 kg) and second featherweight (up to 59 kg), as well as a two-time Olympic champion: in the category up to 57 kg at the Olympics in Beijing (2008) and up to 60 kg in London (2012).
