Viktor Orban promises to lift Ukraine’s “oil blockade” if he wins the election

On April 7, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that if his Fidesz party wins the April 12 elections, he will be able to implement a plan to force Ukraine to resume supplies of Russian oil to Hungary.

Orban said this during a joint press conference with US Vice President J.D. Vance, who arrived to support him on the eve of the elections.

According to Orban, the government must guarantee the Hungarian economy and Hungarian consumers fuel and energy supplies, so Ukraine must be forced to resume the operation of the oil pipeline “Družba”.

“We have a plan on how to do this. We will actually implement it step by step, and I am convinced that at the end of this process, after the victory of the national forces in the elections here, in Hungary, the Ukrainians will have no other choice but to lift this blockade, reopen the oil pipeline, and Hungary will be able to simply return to normal functioning,” – said the Hungarian Prime Minister.

He also expressed the opinion that Ukraine is deliberately not restoring supplies through “Družba” so that a pro-Ukrainian government would come to power in Hungary following the elections on April 12.

March 19 Viktor Orban stated that Budapest will not unblock any solution favorable to Ukraine until Kyiv resumes the supply of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
