Zelensky signed a bill to eliminate the independence of NABU and SAPO and commented on the scandal surrounding it

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi put signature under draft law No. 12414, which contains regulations abolishing the independence of NABU and SAP. Head of state explained depriving NABU and SAP of their independence by the need to rid them of “Russian influence”.

Zelenskyi said that he had a conversation with the head of NABU Semen Kryvonos, SAP prosecutor Oleksandr Klymenko, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko and head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk.

“Different challenges. We have discussed everything. The anti-corruption infrastructure will work. Only without Russian influence – everything must be cleaned of this. And there must be more justice. Of course, NABU and SAP will work.” – said the president.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the Prosecutor General of Ukraine supports the principle of inevitability of punishment for those who violate the law, and all open cases must be brought to a conclusion.

“For years, officials who escaped from Ukraine, for some reason, live peacefully abroad – in very pleasant countries and without legal consequences. This is not normal. There is no rational explanation why criminal proceedings worth billions “hang” for years.” – added the head of state.

The President drew attention to the problem of information leakage, stressing:

“It is important that without the Russians. It is important that there is an inevitability of punishment and that society really sees it.”

We will remind you that on July 23, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law that provides for limiting the powers of NABU and SAP. 263 people’s deputies voted for the document. The law gives the Prosecutor General the authority to access all NABU cases, the right to give mandatory instructions to detectives and to change the investigation. Against the background of this decision, large-scale protests took place in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine.
