Zelensky signed a decree on sanctions against 225 captains of ships of the Russian shadow fleet

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions on 225 captains of ships of the Russian shadow fleet, as well as on entities serving the Russian military-industrial complex. This was reported by the Office of the President.

Citizens of 11 countries, including Russia, India, and the Philippines, are included in the sanctions list. According to the results of monitoring the situation in the Black, Red and Baltic Seas, it was established that these captains were operating vessels of the so-called shadow fleet of Russia and transporting oil in circumvention of restrictions imposed by the EU, the G7 countries and other states.

Of the total number of vessels, 188 tankers are already under sanctions by the European Union, the USA, the UK, Switzerland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The Presidential Advisor on Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasyuk emphasized:

“We continue to convince partners of the importance of individual sanctions on tanker captains. Systematic work on a sanctioned tanker is sufficient grounds for consequences. We must discourage the desire to work with Russian oil, because this is direct financing of the war».

He emphasized that Ukraine will continue to work with international partners to strengthen the personal responsibility of persons involved in the operation of sanctions circumvention schemes.
