Zelenskyy stated the need to streamline Ukraine’s holiday calendar

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to review approaches to the formation of holiday and commemorative dates in the Ukrainian calendar in order to avoid controversial and unfortunate coincidences. He stated this in an evening video address published on the official resources of the head of state.

According to the president, he instructed the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk to initiate the development of relevant proposals together with deputies, the government and representatives of civil society.

“I asked Ruslan Stefanchuk, together with the deputy corps, also together with government officials, with representatives of civil society to prepare proposals for determining new and logical approaches to holidays and special days of our calendar”, – Zelensky noted.

The President drew attention to the fact that today the calendar still contains problematic dates that were formed during the Soviet period or in the first years of independence, and the war only exacerbated these contradictions.

“There are bad calendar coincidences – and the war has made many such changes. When the days of tragedies fall on the days of professional holidays. Or when on one day from Soviet times and the first years of independence – several completely different professional days. All this should be put in order. Just as real Christmas was perceived easily – on December 25, – so other dates should be fair and correct”, – the President said.
