55,000 combatants and 26,000 desertions have been recorded in Ukraine since the beginning of the war: Prosecutor General’s Office

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 55,000 cases of voluntary desertion and 26,000 cases of desertion have been officially recorded, which are among the most alarming indicators of discipline among military personnel. These statistics were published by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, providing data on the number of open criminal cases in the relevant categories.

In addition, about 650 people tried to avoid service by resorting to various methods of self-mutilation or other means to avoid military duty. These cases testify to the existence of certain crisis phenomena among the military, forcing individuals to look for ways to avoid mobilization or service at the front.

These figures are of serious concern, as the situation calls for both a thorough investigation and active command intervention. The Ukrainian military continues to fight for the country’s independence, and such cases undermine the general moral and psychological aspects of the service. The authorities call for strengthening discipline and implementing measures that will help maintain morale and proper training of servicemen.

Investigations into such crimes are ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken against violators in accordance with Ukrainian law to minimize negative consequences and protect military discipline.
