9.5 thousand convicts, including 100 women, joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
About 9,500 convicts have already joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including 100 women. About this reported State Criminal Enforcement Service of Ukraine.
“Nearly 9,500 convicts perform tasks at the front, in particular on the front line. 100 women who received sentences serve in the Armed Forces. They are usually involved in communication, logistics and medical support units,” – the message says.
As noted by the DKVS, 55% of men and women who are currently at the front were previously convicted of property crimes, 11% – for crimes related to drug trafficking, 9% – for causing bodily harm, 6% each – for committing road accidents with victims and for murders.
The department clarifies that not all categories of convicts have the right to mobilization. Persons convicted of crimes against national security, including terrorism, sexual crimes, intentional murders of two or more persons, as well as those who committed official crimes while in particularly responsible positions cannot join the Armed Forces.
We will remind you that in May of last year, the Verkhovna Rada approved in the second reading draft law No. 11079-1, which opened the possibility for some prisoners to join the Armed Forces. At that time, the Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska predicted in June that at the first stage of the mobilization of Ukrainian prisoners, more than 4,000 people would volunteer to join the army.
