Children of war

A child whose parents had not seen him for 2 years was returned to Ukraine

Thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine and the public union “Ukrainian Network for Children’s Rights”, 5-year-old Maxim, who was separated from his parents during the war, was returned to the territory under the control of the Government of Ukraine.

The boy was staying with his grandparents in the Zaporizhzhia region. When the full-scale Russian invasion began, the village where they lived came under occupation. The parents did not have time to pick up the child. For security reasons, his parents did not dare to follow him to the occupied territory, and his grandmother was afraid of Russian roadblocks on the way to Ukraine“, the message says.

In the end, Maksym’s mother turned to the Ministry of Reintegration hotline 15-48. The representative of the Ministry, Nataliya Yemets, together with the co-coordinator of the “Way Home” project, Anastasia Khaliulova, developed an action plan and a return route.

“The boy is finally back with his parents and is safe. He will celebrate his sixth birthday in May“, the Ministry of Reintegration noted.

In total, “The Way Home” has already returned 86 children.
