A former employee of the Ministry of Education and Culture, who mocked the independence of Ukraine, was informed of the suspicion

Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported about the suspicion of Andrii Vasylenko, a former state expert of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in connection with his publication on Facebook, in which he mocked the independence of Ukraine and the Baltic states. We are talking about Andriy Vasylenko, who until August 2023 was an expert in the group on digital transformation of education and science.
Vasylenko is accused of violating Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Violation of the equality of citizens depending on their racial, national, regional affiliation”). In his post, he called Ukraine’s independence a “throwaway” and questioned the desire of Ukrainians to leave the USSR in 1991.
According to the results of the disciplinary proceedings, Vasylenko was dismissed from the Ministry of Education and Science. Now he faces a fine, restriction of liberty or deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 3 years.
It is noted that Andriy Vasylenko got into a scandal at the end of August 2023, when he ridiculed the independence of Ukraine and the Baltic countries, and also questioned the desire of Ukrainians to leave the USSR in the early 1990s. Ukrainians in the network were indignant, and Oksen Lisovyi reacted sharply to the statements of his “colleague”, and Vasylenko was dismissed from the ministry.
