A gas explosion occurred in a high-rise building in the city of Khmelnytskyi, injuring five people, including one child. Two deaths are also known. This was reported by the State Emergency Service.
According to rescuers, a domestic gas explosion in a building on Ternopilska Street, 34/2, partially destroyed nine apartments, and another fifteen were damaged.
As specified by the police, the rubble is being cleared at the scene. City council representatives are assessing the need to evacuate residents and the risk of further destruction of the building. The search and rescue operation is continuing. Climbers, engineering equipment of the State Emergency Service and municipal services were involved in the work. Tents of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Indestructibility Point and the Psychological Assistance Point of the State Emergency Service were set up for the victims, where all necessary support is provided.
Unfortunately, the tragic data were confirmed. As a result of the explosion in a house on Ternopilska Street, the bodies of two deceased were found under the rubble. At 02:24, the body of a woman born in 1973 was discovered, and at 05:12, the body of a man born in 1983 was found. Both were sent for a forensic medical examination to determine the cause of death. The circumstances and causes of the explosion are also currently being established.
“32 people will, preliminarily, require temporary relocation. Local government, the city council is working and taking them into account, ready to provide temporary shelter so that people can spend the night as long as necessary, – said the head of the Khmelnytskyi OVA Serhiy Tyurin.
