A mutiny broke out in the ranks of the US Army: soldiers protest against war with Iran
Donald Trump’s decision to send a large-scale deployment of Marines to the Middle East has sparked a revolt in the US military. According to HuffPost investigation, a significant portion of the military is openly skeptical of the operation, considering it strategically unfounded and politically biased.
Officers and reservists say the military currently lacks the resources to fully confront Tehran, and the level of psychological stress among soldiers has reached critical levels.
Experts say the lack of a clear goal for combat operations is the main factor in demoralization. A military veteran who advises young officers says subordinates are increasingly refusing to risk their lives for the sake of other people’s geopolitical interests. I hear the words from the military:
“We don’t want to die for Israel — we don’t want to be political pawns,” she stated.
The situation is exacerbated by the rapid increase in the number of applications to the Center on Conscience and War. During March alone, the number of requests from individuals wishing to be discharged from service for ideological beliefs increased by 1,000%. The executive director of this organization, Mike Priesner, emphasized that the institution is now processing at least one new application every day. In parallel with the ideological crisis, military analysts point to significant technical and logistical miscalculations in the planning of the campaign.
American facilities in the Middle East remain vulnerable to Iranian drones and ballistic missiles, and the Pentagon has still not presented a convincing scenario for actions in the event of a protracted phase of the conflict.
National security experts warn that the current state of the army could be fatal to the success of the operation. Although there have been no mass desertions, total distrust in the leadership and a sense of mortal danger without proper strategic benefit are undermining the foundations of the country’s defense capabilities. Constant attacks from pro-Iranian groups only increase the exhaustion of the troops.
This internal crisis of confidence is forcing official Washington to look for ways out of the situation, since ignoring the mood in the ranks of the armed forces threatens to destabilize the entire security system of the United States in the long term.
