At the customs post of “Ukrposhta” Kyiv Customs during the control of international postal items that were being processed for export from Ukraine, an explosion of an unknown object that was placed in a parcel occurred. This was reported by the State Customs Service.
As a result of the incident, two employees of Kyiv Customs and three employees of JSC “Ukrposhta” were injured. All the injured were provided with medical assistance. The work of emergency services has been completed, and investigations are currently underway.
The clearance of shipments in this area has been temporarily suspended. Work is planned to be resumed as soon as possible, taking into account the security situation. The import clearance process is continuing as usual.
The situation was commented on by the General Director of “Ukrposhta” Ihor Smilyansky:
“An explosion occurred at one of our Ukrposhta sorting centers in Kyiv. The incident occurred during the control procedures for the shipment of prohibited items. Thanks to the measures taken, it was also possible to detect and seize another parcel with prohibited and dangerous contents. The control system worked, but, unfortunately, five employees were injured. They are being provided with all necessary medical assistance.
