A reduction in electricity imports is recorded in Ukraine

In November, the volume of electricity imports to Ukraine decreased by 9.4% compared to October and amounted to about 165,000 MWh. Such data informs ExPro Electricity within the framework of market monitoring.

The previous month, October, was marked by the lowest volume of electricity imports in the last six months. In November, the reduction continued, in particular due to a significant decrease in imports from Hungary, which for a long time was the leading supplier of electricity to Ukraine, and Moldova. In particular, the indicator of these countries fell by 44%. At the same time, supplies from Poland doubled, reaching over 40,000 MWh.

In terms of the structure of imports, the leadership in November belonged to Slovakia, which provided 33% of all deliveries. In second place was Poland, whose contribution was 25% of the total volume.

The tendency to reduce electricity imports started back in July. Prior to that, Ukraine had been actively increasing procurement volumes for three months in a row. The highest figure was recorded in June, when imports reached a record level of 858,300 MWh, which was 91% higher than in May.

Since December 1, Ukraine has been given the opportunity to increase the volume of electricity imports from EU countries to 2.1 GW, which significantly exceeds the previous limit of 1.7 GW. This opens up new prospects for ensuring the energy stability of the country, especially in the winter period, when the demand for electricity traditionally increases.
