A third of Ukrainian youth wants to go abroad: survey results
A third (32%) of Ukrainians aged 16 to 35 said they would like to move abroad if they had the opportunity, while 45% of respondents are not considering moving. Such data made public Sociological group “Rating” according to the results of the survey.
Residents of eastern regions, residents of small towns, internally displaced persons (IDPs), men, young people aged 22–25, and students show the desire to emigrate most often. The main reasons for moving are security, higher incomes and prospects for children. Respondents also noted better living conditions and the opportunity to travel as important motives.
For residents of rural areas, emigration is mostly related to economic factors: better opportunities for earning and employment. Young people aged 16–21 more often indicate a desire to find conditions for self-realization, to get a quality education or a promising job.
The survey was conducted on behalf of the OSCE among 2,000 respondents aged 16 to 35 in all regions of Ukraine, with the exception of the temporarily occupied territories.
