A thousand bodies of fallen soldiers, whom Russia considers to be our soldiers, were returned to Ukraine

On February 26, 1,000 bodies (remains) were returned to Ukraine, which, according to the Russian side, belong to the fallen Ukrainian defenders. The procedure for their identification will continue.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The department noted that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, together with specialists from expert institutions, will conduct all necessary investigative and forensic actions to establish the identity of each of the repatriated.

The headquarters clarified that the return of the bodies was made possible thanks to the joint work of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center at the SBU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service and other structures of the security and defense sector. Gratitude was also expressed to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance in carrying out repatriation measures.

The day before, Vladimir Putin’s aide and head of the Russian negotiating delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, stated that the Ukrainian side had handed over 35 bodies of dead servicemen to the Russian Federation. “The Ukrainian side has handed over 35 bodies of dead servicemen to the Russian Federation.” The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the current return of the bodies.

The previous large-scale stage of repatriation took place on January 29 – then the Russian Federation handed over to Ukraine a thousand bodies, which, according to the Russian side, belong to the Ukrainian military. In response, the Ukrainian side returned 38 bodies of dead Russians.
