A Ukrainian was deported from Poland: a case when a refugee can be deported
According to the legislation of most European countries, a refugee or a person with the status of temporary protection cannot be deported to a country where there is an ongoing war. This rule applies even if the migrant violates the laws of the country that accepted him. However, there are exceptions. This is exactly what happened in Poland the other day.
A citizen of Ukraine repeatedly violated law and order. He was previously convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol and was imprisoned. After leaving the Polish prison, the Ukrainian continued to drive drunk. During such a trip, the violator was detained by the police. He was deported. Employees of the Border Service in Opole handed over the man to Ukrainian border guards.
“The man, having a conviction for driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (Article 178a of the Criminal Code) and a ban on driving a vehicle in land traffic, did not intend to comply with them. His behavior clearly indicates that he does not intend to respect therefore, in order to protect public security and order, the commandant of the border post in Opole issued him an administrative decision, which obliged the man to return to his country of origin, while also issuing a decree prohibiting him from re-entering the Schengen area zone for a period of 7 years”, – they informed Polish border guards.
The number of Ukrainians who arrived in Poland after the start of the full-scale war, decreased from 1.3 million to 950 thousand In total, 2.5 to 3 million Ukrainian citizens live in Poland.
