Ukrzaliznytsia reported Russian shelling of railway infrastructure on the night of March 22. During the evacuation of passengers from a train in the Odessa region, a tragedy occurred: the conductor was fatally injured by an oncoming train. In addition, one of the passengers received moderate injuries. This was reported in a statement by Ukrzaliznytsia.
The company noted that, together with the military, railway workers have strengthened control over all threats and announce evacuation in the event of direct activity of enemy drones or other means of destruction near the route of a specific train.
“Evacuation in the event of a drone threat to passenger trains saves lives, but at the same time can also pose a critical danger with the slightest carelessness,” — wrote Ukrzaliznytsia.
It was under such circumstances that a conductor died on the Odessa Railway during the evacuation of passengers. The oncoming train, which was also heading to its evacuation stop, caused her fatal injuries. Ukrzaliznytsia reported that it had already begun a “thorough investigation of the accident” and was monitoring the condition of the victim.
The company urged strict adherence to the rules of disembarkation and boarding, in particular, avoiding crowds and panic, checking for oncoming trains, not taking bulky items with you, and supporting children and other passengers who need help.
“Training and practical classes are ongoing with train crews, and the analysis of each case strengthens safety protocols. This saves lives, but requires everyone’s vigilance,” Ukrzaliznytsia added.
