Advisor to the Head of the President’s Office Mykhailo Podolyak placed responsibility for corruption in Ukraine on the Kremlin
Advisor to the Head of the President’s Office Mykhailo Podoliak putResponsibility for the corruption scandal in the Ukrainian energy sector lies with the Kremlin.
“The news of the investigation into the corruption scheme in the energy sector, unfortunately, is not unexpected. This is a logical echo of the past, in which the Kremlin spent decades building a system to keep Ukraine in its zone of influence. Corruption was one of its main tools, and the remnants of this mechanism exist”, — said Podoliak.
In his opinion, the real news is not the fact of abuses, but the work of anti-corruption bodies.
“That such an investigation has begun, that a lot of investigative work has been carried out, that at the highest level they emphasize the need for fair sentences – all this convincingly shows the transformation of Ukraine,”— notes Yermak’s advisor.
Podoliak also warns that Russian propaganda will try to use the energy corruption scandal as evidence of Ukraine’s alleged weakness.
“But the reality is the opposite: we are not seeing the collapse of the state, but the testing of a new institutional framework. Few countries could detect, investigate, and publicly discuss such matters during wartime.”, — says the advisor to the head of the OP.
He also recalled that “throughout 30 years of independence, we have had major corruption scandals time and time again.”
According to him, the difference lies in the current state reaction:
“Once it was silent. Once it tolerated. Once it transferred people from position to position. Today, Ukraine demonstrates intolerance to corruption. At the level of the President, the fastest and toughest decisions are made. This is not at all the Ukraine that it was 10, 15, 20 years ago.”
