After repairs, the last 9th power unit of the NPP on Ukrainian-controlled territory has started operating
On October 24, NNEGC “Energoatom” launched the last, ninth power unit of nuclear power plants located in the territory controlled by Ukraine. This was reported by former Energy Minister Olga Buslavets.
“All 9 power units of the nuclear power plant located in the unoccupied territories operate in the energy system of Ukraine. Today, the last 9th power unit was turned on after scheduled repairs, the report says.
Currently, electricity production by hydroelectric power plants is significantly limited by capacity and water resources. Output at thermal power plants and CHPs has decreased due to Russian attacks and destruction of energy infrastructure, and renewable energy sources operate at a seasonal level, which depends on weather conditions and cloudiness.
At the same time, according to JSC “Market Operator”, wholesale electricity prices in the unified power system of Ukraine have decreased by 20% on working days over the past week. The average price index of base load electricity BASE on the “day-ahead” market (RDN) during the working week was 6,103 UAH per MWh.
Currently, “Energoatom” operates nine power units of the South Ukrainian, Rivne and Khmelnytskyi NPPs with a total capacity of 7,880 MW, which operate on Ukrainian-controlled territory.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which has six VVER-1000 power units with a total capacity of 6,000 MW, has not been generating electricity since September 11 of the same year after the occupation on March 3–4, 2022.
