After the end of the war, the state will not be able to independently maintain an army of 800,000 soldiers: Zelensky
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the state will not have sufficient financial resources to independently maintain the Armed Forces numbering about 800 thousand servicemen after the cessation of hostilities. The head of state reported this during a conversation with journalists.
According to him, partial financing of the Ukrainian army by partner countries should become one of the key elements of future security guarantees for Ukraine.
“Will Ukraine be able to independently finance such an army if there is a ceasefire? No, it is not capable, there will not be enough financial resources, that is why I am conducting this dialogue with the leaders, because I consider partial financing of our army at the expense of partners as a guarantee of security for us, — the president explained.
He emphasized that it is the army that is the main and primary guarantee of security for the Ukrainian state.
Zelensky also noted that after the end of the war, the country will need a certain transition period to restore and stabilize the economy.
“We need some years, some time, some period to level the post-war economy, to level it and reach the possibility of self-financing our army. “But for now, we need help from partners,” he added.
