Musk wants to buy OpenAI for almost $100 billion
Elon Musk has offered almost 100 billion US dollars for the company OpenAI, which developed the popular chatbot ChatGPT. The total amount of the offer is 97.4 billion dollars, informs CNN.
The $97.4 billion figure is well below the $157 billion OpenAI was valued at last October. Now, according to many experts, the capitalization of the company may well exceed 300 billion in American currency.
Musk has long been at odds with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and has even filed several lawsuits against him and the company. He accuses OpenAI of misrepresenting its leadership as philanthropic and of violating its original charter by commercializing its AI developments.
OpenAI is managed by a non-profit organization that controls the commercial structure “OpenAI LP”. In a few years, this company grew from almost zero value to a valuation of about 100 billion dollars, and Altman is believed to have played a key role in this success.
Sam Altman responded to Musk’s proposal:
“No thanks, but we’ll buy X for $9.74 billion if you’re interested.”
It will be recalled that Elon Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI in 2015, but left the company after disputes regarding its transition to a commercial model of activity.
