‘Alarming signal”: the Ministry of Education and Science explains why the level of knowledge of Ukrainian schoolchildren is falling

During the war, the level of knowledge of Ukrainian schoolchildren significantly decreased due to forced relocations, missed classes and the introduction of distance learning. The consequences of such losses in education are extremely serious. Nadiya Kuzmychova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, told about this interview Ukrainian mass media.

According to her, according to the results of the PISA-2022 international study, the level of knowledge of Ukrainian teenagers is about two years behind the required standard.

Kuzmychova emphasized that these educational losses affect not only academic performance, but also the individual development of children. In the long run, this may slow down the country’s economic and social development.

“Due to forced relocations and gaps in education during the war, many children did not have the opportunity to acquire sufficient knowledge and practical skills. This is not only a matter of school grades. This is the development of soft skills and socialization skills, these are future professional opportunities, successes that can remain unrealized”Kuzmychova noted.

The Ministry of Education is actively working to return children to full-time education through the “School Offline” program.

“This is our commitment to the future of the state, our chance to provide children with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence, which are so important for their successful implementation in life and for a strong future of Ukraine”, – added Deputy Minister Oksena Lisovoy.
