Aleksandar Vučić suggested that the EU buy ammunition from Serbia and then transfer it to Ukraine

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has suggested that the European Union purchase Serbian ammunition that could later be used in Ukraine. He reported this in an interview with the German publication Cicero.

Vucic noted that Serbia produces more ammunition than France and that Serbian warehouses are “overfilled with ammunition”. According to him, the country continues to produce shells, including mortar shells, and can contribute to European security by concluding an agreement on their sale to the European Union:

“I do not want to be considered someone who constantly supplies ammunition to the warring parties, but ammunition is needed in Europe. That is why I have suggested to our friends from the EU to conclude a sales agreement with us and take everything we have”, – said the President of Serbia.

He added that he is currently waiting for a final response from European partners on this proposal.

When asked whether this ammunition could be used in Ukraine, Vučić replied:

“Buyers can do whatever they want with it. We just need a long-term agreement so that we can plan.

The head of state also emphasized that Serbia remains a militarily neutral country that condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and seeks accession to the European Union, but “there are various reasons why we also maintain contacts with Russia”, including gas supplies from the Russian Federation and Moscow’s non-recognition of Kosovo’s independence.

As a reminder, on October 26, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stated that Belgrade is ready to become a platform for possible peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. He stressed that the war in Ukraine must be stopped “immediately”, and stressed that Serbia “in principle supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states within their UN-recognized borders”, including Ukraine.
