Amid the backlash, the White House explained why Biden pardoned his son

The White House justified the decision of US President Joe Biden to pardon his son Hunter, which caused a wide response. The official reaction was voiced by the press secretary of the White House, Karin Jean-Pierre, informs BBC News.
Jean-Pierre explained that the pardon was approved to protect Hunter Biden from possible politically motivated persecution by the president’s opponents. She noted that Biden made the decision during a family vacation on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts, which fell on Thanksgiving.
According to her, the president believes in the justice of the judicial system, but believes that political interests “infected the process”, causing errors in the judiciary. Jean-Pierre added that Biden is convinced that his son has been “singled out” because of his family ties, and fears that the president’s political opponents will continue to harass him.
Hunter Biden, the middle son of Joe Biden, has experience as a lobbyist, lawyer and investment banker. In the past, he was also a member of the board of directors of the Ukrainian company Burisma, which is associated with Mykola Zlochevskyi, the former minister of ecology in Mykola Azarov’s government.
