An official who sold information from state databases was detained in Ivano-Frankivsk region

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation together with the SBU and the internal security unit of the State Border Service detained deputy chief of one of the departments of the law enforcement agency in Ivano-Frankivsk region. The investigation established that the official regularly traded confidential information from state databases.

For a monetary reward, he checked information about individuals, in particular regarding being wanted, the presence of a ban on traveling abroad and other confidential information. I used a personal key to access the registers. Starting in February 2025, he illegally transferred data on at least 43 people, receiving about $2,000 for it.

The official was charged with suspicion under 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — in extorting and receiving illegal benefits. According to the sanction of this article, he faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Currently, a submission to the court is being prepared regarding the selection of a preventive measure in the form of detention and removal of the person involved from his position. Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Ivano-Frankivsk specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Western region.
