An unidentified drone was shot down near a military base in Estonia

In southern Estonia, the military has spotted several drones near the military town of Reedo, one of which was shot down. This was reported by the press secretary of the General Staff of the Estonian Defence Forces, Liis Waxmann, in a commentary for Postimees.

“On October 17 at 4:30 p.m., the allies spotted drones flying in the immediate vicinity of the military town of the 2nd Infantry Brigade. One of them was shot down with an anti-drone rifle, Waxmann said.

According to her, the Defense Forces, together with the Department of Police and Border Protection, tried to find the drone, but failed.

“The Defense Forces do not comment on security-related incidents in more detail,” added the General Staff spokeswoman.

The 5th Squadron of the 7th US Cavalry Regiment (5-7 CAV), which is an armored reconnaissance unit, is located in Reedo.

As a reminder, Russia has repeatedly carried out provocations using strike drones. In particular, in September, during a massive strike on Ukraine, 19 Russian drones were detected in Polish airspace, most of which were flying from the direction of Belarus.

Similar incidents have also occurred in Lithuania – one of them occurred in late July, when drones violated the country’s airspace.
