April 17: Review of the events that shaped history

April 17 is an interesting day in the history of Ukraine and the world. On this day, the following are celebrated:
Fire Protection Day – started in 1995, but was originally celebrated on January 29. Later, in 2013, the date of the celebration was changed. On this day, brave people are honored who, risking themselves, save others from fires.

This date was chosen in honor of obtaining a patent by the Italian Achille Hagia for the creation of coffee machines, which took place in 1938. At the same time, in 1901, the Italian Luigi Bezzera produced the first espresso machine.

Snooker’s birthday is a date established by the colonel of the British colonial forces in Jabalpur (India) Neville Chamberlain in 1875. As he later admitted, “from the boredom and idiocy of a long garrison life.” The existing billiards clearly did not satisfy the need to kill time, and Neville complicated the rules, in particular to give the loser a chance to catch up and overtake the opponent. That is why there are so many different colored balls in snooker. At first there were only 4 of them, but by 1890 there were 6 of them. It is believed that “snooker” is a nickname for a rookie in the military service of the British army, something like “salaga”.
Memorable dates:
On April 17, 2014, in front of the Horliv city council building, citizens gathered for a rally “For a united Ukraine”. During the rally, city council member Volodymyr Rybak tried to remove the flag of the so-called DPR and return the flag of Ukraine. After the rally, according to witnesses, a car drove up to the deputy, and some people in camouflage literally pushed Rybak into the cabin and took him away in an unknown direction.
A few days later, on April 22, the bodies of Volodymyr Rybak and 19-year-old KPI student Yury Popravka were found in the Kazennyi Torets river near Slovyansk with signs of torture and violent death.
On February 20, 2015, Volodymyr Rybak was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Golden Star Order (posthumously).
April 17, 1938 – “Black Thursday” – one of the tragic dates in the history of the Crimean Tatar people. On this day, the head of the first Kurultay of the Crimean Tatar people Asan Sabri Aivazov, the writer and teacher Osman ethnographer Usein Bodaninsky, the head of the Crimean government in 1929–1937 Abduraim Samedinov, the linguist and teacher Yagya were shot in the Simferopol prison of the Crimean ASSR after being accused of espionage. Bairashevskyi and other representatives of the Crimean Tatar intelligentsia. A total of 36 people were shot, five more received long prison terms.
