May 3 can be called a truly sunny day, even if the weather is rainy. The thing is that today is the day of the stars, the whole planet revolves around you and me – the Day of the Sun. Also, this date can be called bright because of the professional holiday – Confectioner’s Day. Therefore, if something does not work even in the morning, you can sweeten it – it is proven that sweets stimulate the release of the so-called happiness hormone.

On this sunny and “sweet” day, the editors of the “FAKT” publication congratulate their colleagues on the Day of Freedom of the Press.

Holidays and commemorative dates:

International Day of the Sun – May 3 was originally a holiday of the Sun only in the USA. It has been celebrated there since 1978. In fact, the date was chosen to draw people’s attention to the possibilities of solar energy – an inexhaustible resource. Since 1994, on the initiative of the International Society of Solar Energy, the holiday began to be celebrated in most countries of the world.

World Press Freedom Day – celebrated since 1992. The initiators of the commemoration of the date are representatives of the free press from African countries. On May 3, 1991, representatives of the independent press of African countries adopted the “Windhoek Declaration” in the capital of Namibia. The document contains a call to the governments of the world to ensure the freedom of the press and its democratic nature.

Confectioner’s Day – On May 3, chefs from all over the world who specialize in the production of sweets celebrate a professional holiday.

Events on this day:

1469 Niccolò Machiavelli, politician and thinker, secretary of state of Florence, author of the famous treatise “The Ruler” (Il Principe) was born.

1616 — William Shakespeare, an outstanding English playwright, actor and poet, died.

1783 — the Russian empress Catherine II forbade the peasants of Left Bank Ukraine and Slobozhanshchyna to relocate from the places of the last revision by decree: the peasants were fortified.

1874 – the world-famous French perfumer Francois Coty was born. He can be considered the king of marketing in perfumery. It was Coty who started selling perfumes in exquisite bottles. He was the first to start collaborating with artists to design packaging and bottles. He also offered to sell aromatic products in sets (for example, perfume, soap and toilet water). François Coty is also the author of the first perfume testers. It was he who guessed to bottle aromatic products in small bottles in order to advertise the aroma. Conti was also a pioneer in the combination of natural and artificial fragrances in perfumery.

1880 — the first Lviv horse-drawn tram in Ukraine was opened.

1898 — Golda Meir, an Israeli statesman, was born on the territory of modern Ukraine. One of the founders of the state of Israel, the 4th prime minister of the country.
