Artificial intelligence showed its vision of a “beautiful Ukrainian woman”
In many images, women are wearing trousers rather than dresses or skirts.
The artificial intelligence program created an image of a “beautiful” Ukrainian woman, recreating her as she is perceived by technology. Edition StyleSeat, which initiated this project, became interested in the ability of AI to reflect various ideas of beauty from around the world.
Midjourney, an AI program, generated images of women taking into account criteria such as cultural context and the perception of a certain nation by the world society. As a result, the study found a “stunning uniformity” in the images created, although some features were unique to certain ethnicities.
“The AI consistently produced images of women looking relatively thin and ‘put together’, although it also managed to add some variety to their overall appearance, mostly in terms of race and clothing.”, – reports StyleSeat.
Interestingly, most of the women in the images wore minimal or natural makeup, suggesting that AI does not associate beauty with a lot of makeup. The publication also noted that in many images, women are wearing pants, not dresses or skirts. This challenges traditional gender norms and indicates that AI is programmed to recognize different outfits as equally beautiful.
