Austria is ready to become a platform for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia

Austrian Chancellor Karl Neghammer said that his country is ready to offer its territory for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. He emphasized that any dialogue should be based on the principle of equality of the parties and take place without preconditions.

“We take into account Russia’s readiness for negotiations with Ukraine, but these negotiations should take place on an equal footing and without preconditions. Austria is ready to promote a just and lasting peace based on international law, as well as to provide a place for dialogue, given the presence of the OSCE headquarters in our territory”, – stated Negammer in the social network Kh.

The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his speech at the Eastern Economic Forum, again stated that Russia “never refused” the possibility of dialogue. However, he emphasized that negotiations can only take place on the basis of the documents discussed in the spring of 2022 in Istanbul, which include territorial concessions on the part of Ukraine.

The Kremlin’s position remains unchanged: Russia insists on maintaining control over the territories it annexed, some of which still remain under Ukrainian control. In addition, Russian officials have repeatedly stated that the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region makes it impossible to continue the peace dialogue.

Meanwhile, at a press conference on August 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi emphasized that the operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region is an important element of the victory plan. He noted that successes at the front could strengthen Kyiv’s position in the event of a resumption of negotiations.
