Austria won Eurovision 2025, Ukraine entered the top ten (video)

In the final of the international song contest “Eurovision-2025”, which took place on May 15 in the Swiss city of Basel, the representative of Austria under the pseudonym JJ won. His song Wasted Love earned the country a total of 436 points, securing Austria’s third win in the competition’s history.

According to the voting results, it was the national juries that provided the Austrian performer with the main advantage — JJ received 258 points from professional evaluators. Another 178 points were scored by Austria as a result of the votes of viewers from all over Europe, which finally secured its first place.

The five leaders of this year’s competition looked like this:

– Austria — JJ (436 points);
– Israel – Yuval Raphael (357 points);
– Estonia — Tommy Cash (356 points);
– Sweden — band KAJ (321 points), which was considered the favorite of bookmakers;
– Italy – Lucio Corsi (256 points).

Ukraine, represented by the band Ziferblat, took the ninth place, scoring 218 points. Out of them, Ukrainians received 60 points from the national jury — this gave them only 14th place in this evaluation segment. Instead, the audience supported the performance much more actively — 156 points from TV viewers significantly increased the band’s result, allowing it to enter the top ten.

Switzerland received a high score from the jury – 214, but no votes from the audience. This created a contrasting imbalance that affected the country’s final place. A similar situation befell France, which scored 180 points from the professional jury, but much less from the public.

Iceland, on the other hand, received no points from the jury at all, and received only 33 points from the audience. The situation for Great Britain became even more unfortunate — the country did not receive a single point from the audience for the second year in a row. If last year the song performed by Olly Alexander did not gather any support from the audience, then this year the situation was repeated again.

The following countries had the lowest results in the finals:

– Luxembourg — 47 points;
– Denmark — 47 points;
– Spain — 37 points;
– Iceland — 33 points;
– San Marino — 27 points.

The results of voting in the Eurovision semi-finals are traditionally made public only after the final of the contest. This year, Ukraine participated in the first semi-final. Despite the fact that the band Ziferblat was announced as the last among the participants who made it to the final, it was the Ukrainian artists who received the most support from the audience in their semi-final group.

In total, Ziferblat scored 137 points from the viewers in the first semi-final. Here’s how those votes were distributed:

– Ukrainians received 12 points from the spectators of Cyprus, Poland, Portugal and Spain;
– 10 points — from Albania and “Rest of the World” (this voting segment is counted as a separate country);
– 8 points came from Estonia, the Netherlands and Slovenia;
– 7 points — from Azerbaijan and Italy;
– 6 points — from Belgium and San Marino;
– 5 points from Norway;
– 4 points — from Croatia, Iceland and Sweden;
– 2 points — from Switzerland.

Thus, it was the audience voting that provided Ukraine with strong support and access to the final, despite the modest announcement of the result.
