BEB detectives exposed a scheme to seize UAH 8.7 million of state funds at Ukrzaliznytsia

Under the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine, detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) exposed a scheme of embezzlement of state funds at Ukrzaliznytsia. Three employees of one of the regional branches of Ukrzaliznytsia together with the director of a private company committed fraudulent actions during the tender.
This was reported by the BEB press service.
“According to the materials of the pre-trial investigation, the limited liability company became the winner of the tender for the supply of linings for rails to a state institution for UAH 8.7 million, for which a corresponding contract was concluded.” – the message says.
The scheme consisted of the following: LLC won the tender for supplying a state institution with a batch of linings for rails in the amount of UAH 8.7 million. However, the approved tender documentation contained clear technical requirements for product quality.
Instead of a product that would meet these requirements, the defendants supplied rail linings of inferior quality. The supply not only did not meet the standards of DSTU, but also generally lacked some critical strength indicators.
Thanks to the conducted analytical studies and forensic economic examination, the detectives of the BEB established losses caused to the state in the amount of UAH 8.7 million.
Currently, all four persons have been charged with crimes under Articles 191 (theft) and 366 (official negligence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The resolution of the issue regarding the selection of a preventive measure is ongoing.
