Belarus reports hundreds of Ukrainian drones attempting to strike infrastructure
State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich, stated that Ukrainian drones allegedly regularly cross the Belarusian border and in some cases try to attack border infrastructure. He made this statement during a meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils in Moscow.
According to Volfovich, the Belarusian air defense system constantly records the crossing of the border and the landing of drones on the territory of the country. He claims that some of the incidents are not accidental.
“In the last week alone, there were 116 of them. Emergency forces were used against them 59 times,” Volfovich said.
The Belarusian official also stated that Ukraine is allegedly trying to hit elements of the border infrastructure, using the cover of random drone flights. In addition, according to him, the use of strike UAVs and assault operations are allegedly being practiced in the border areas of Ukraine.
Against the background of these statements, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously reported on the construction of roads and the arrangement of artillery positions on the territory of Belarus near the Ukrainian border. Ukrainian intelligence also stated that Russia is trying to draw Belarus into new military operations.
On May 18, the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced joint exercises with the Russian military, during which they will practice the use of nuclear weapons. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, stated that the possibility of offensive actions by Belarus remains real.
