Biden scuttles Ukraine deal to import liquefied natural gas: WSJ

The US government under the leadership of President Joe Biden rejected Ukraine’s request to import liquefied natural gas.
About this informs The Wall Street Journal.
It is noted that this decision was the result of strengthening the energy efficiency of Europe, which, responding to the full-scale invasion of Russia, is increasing the volume of LNG imports from the United States.
The situation has become particularly urgent due to the expiration of the five-year transit agreement with Russian Gazprom, which passed through the territory of Ukraine and ends at the end of this year. Ukraine no longer plans to extend this agreement, which accelerates the need to provide the region with alternative energy sources.
For example, the largest private energy company of Ukraine, DPEK, last week signed an agreement with the American company Venture Global, based in Virginia. The purpose of the agreement was to purchase LNG from Plaquemines Venture Global, with the aim of ensuring energy security not only for Ukraine, but also for the wider Eastern European region.
However, according to the WSJ, the deal has stalled over a moratorium on liquefied natural gas exports imposed by the Biden administration.
