Britain demands that Apple open access to encrypted user data

The Security Service of Great Britain obliged the American company Apple to create a backdoor that would provide full access to encrypted user data stored in iCloud. About this informs The Washington Post.

According to the decree of the British government, Apple is required to provide unlimited access to all encrypted materials, not just to facilitate the decryption of individual accounts. The implementation of such a requirement would open access to the data not only of British users, but also of the company’s customers around the world.

Experts suggest that instead of complying with the requirements, Apple may completely disable the “Advanced Data Protection” function in Great Britain. This option provides full encryption of all files in the cloud storage.

“Apple can challenge the British government’s request in a closed technical panel, which will evaluate the arguments about the costs of implementing the request, and also go to court, which will determine whether the request is proportionate to the government’s needs. However, the law does not allow Apple to delay compliance during the appeal.” – the message says.
