Britain plans to build the first underwater settlement

British scientists are working on the creation of the first underwater settlement at a depth of up to 200 meters within the framework of the “Deep” project. The developers of these underwater living modules plan to establish a permanent human presence under water from 2027, informs The Guardian.
If the project is successfully implemented, the first inhabitants will be able to spend 28 days in the ocean, and later this period can be extended to several months. The creators of “Deep” plan to equip underwater mobile research stations, equipping them with bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a common room.
Such underwater houses will give scientists the opportunity to explore the depths of the sea for a longer time, which still remain little explored. In addition, it is expected that the project will interest wealthy tourists.
“The project aims to improve understanding of the ocean and its critical role for humanity,” – says the operations director of “Deep” Mike Shackleford.
The financing of the project was provided by an anonymous billionaire, whose name has not yet been disclosed. It is only known that the amount allocated is much higher than 120 million dollars.
