“Can we finally stop chattering our tongues, reject senseless Putinophobia and give Ukrainians tools”: Boris Johnson

The former Prime Minister of Great Britain published an article in the Daily Mail, where he commented on the offensive of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region.

Former Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson in his columns for the Daily Mail expressed admiration for the successes of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region and called on the British government to allow Ukraine to use long-range weapons to strike Russian air bases.

In an article published on August 16 under the headline “After a week of tactical genius, Ukraine can finally end this war”, Johnson describes how Vladimir Putin was extremely irritated after the governor of the Kursk region reported on the infiltration of the armed forces into Russian territory. This, according to Johnson, only deepened the humiliation of the Russian leader.

Johnson emphasizes that Putin could not have imagined that Ukrainian tanks would be able to enter Russian territory and capture more territory in a week than Russian troops can in a whole year. He also notes that this offensive demonstrated how the Western allies underestimated the courage and determination of Ukrainians.

“We underestimated their courage — their willingness to do what people thought was impossible. And we chronically underestimated their pure rage at the Russian invader — the deep thirst in Ukrainian hearts to drive Putin’s troops out of every scrap of Ukrainian land. So, for God’s sake, can we finally stop to wag their tongues, reject the senseless Putinophobia and give the Ukrainians the tools they really need to get things done; and by that I mean proper permission to use the tools we’ve already provided.”, says the article.

Johnson concluded by calling for an end to the procrastination and for Ukraine to be allowed to use long-range Western weapons, such as the US ATACMS and Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles, to stop Russian airstrikes.

On August 15, the British Ministry of Defense said that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons provided to it for operations on the territory of Russia, although restrictions on the use of long-range Storm Shadow missiles remain in force.

“We underestimated their courage – the willingness to do what seemed impossible. And we constantly underestimated their determination to fight the Russian invaders, the deep desire of Ukrainians to expel Putin’s troops from every piece of their land. Therefore, it’s time to stop procrastinating, leave silly fears of Putin and provide Ukrainians have the tools they need to win”, — wrote Johnson.

He also appealed to the current Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, to actively support Ukraine and help end the war.
