The number of fraudulent schemes in which criminals impersonate SBU officials is increasing in Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine records an increase in the number of fraudulent schemes in which criminals impersonate service officials in order to defraud citizens.

According to data of the SBU, fake “SBU employees” contact people and intimidate them with fabricated criminal cases about alleged treason, financing of Russia, or purchase of prohibited goods. To increase pressure, scammers can send fake summonses for interrogation to messengers.

After that, the attackers offer to allegedly avoid punishment. Most often, they demand to transfer or transfer money “for verification” or “to avoid criminal liability.”

The SBU urges citizens to record the data of persons who contact them, including phone numbers and screenshots of messages. You should also not transfer confidential bank card data or make urgent money transfers.

In case of suspicious requests from persons claiming to be SBU employees, citizens are advised to check the information only through official channels and contact the hotline 1516, the e-mail addresses [email protected] and [email protected] or the chatbot “Spaly FSBshnyk”.
