Elections in Ukraine will be held after the end of martial law: Zelenskyy

The Parliament of Ukraine will be able to determine the date of the elections only after the end of the active phase of the war and the abolition of martial law. About this stated President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the nationwide telethon.

“If we succeed and we can get the end of the hot phase of the war in a strong position for Ukraine, if we can do it, we will have a strong army, a strong package of weapons, security guarantees, after that we can think that there will be no martial law in Ukraine. And if there is no martial law, then in principle the parliament will support one or another election date”, – the president noted.

He emphasized that the current president and parliament remain the legitimate authorities until new representatives are elected. Zelensky assured that the elections will not be postponed for many years after the end of martial law.

“All this is written, just like with the parliament. Both the president and the parliament are legitimate authorities until a new president or a new parliament appears.” – explained the head of state.

The President also noted that the discussion of the elections in Ukraine is heard most from the side of the Russian Federation.
