Children of fallen defenders received laptops and tablets: international project launched in Kyiv
Families of fallen Ukrainian soldiers are often left with practical needs after the loss of a loved one, which do not disappear along with public attention to their history. For children, this is especially noticeable in learning, communication and access to familiar educational opportunities, where even basic technology can determine whether a schoolchild will be able to fully participate in classes and maintain contact with the environment in which he grows up. An international project aimed at practical support for families of fallen Ukrainian soldiers has been launched in Kyiv, and the first stage of the initiative has already covered children from the capital and Kyiv region.
The first stage of the international initiative to support children who lost their parents in the war
On April 27, the first stage of the international initiative for children of fallen defenders of Ukraine was held at the office of the Ukrainian Foundation “Mriya” Charity Organization. During the meeting, 17 children from Kyiv and Kyiv region received technology that should help them in their learning, development and communication.
9 laptops and 8 tablets were donated to families. Children need these devices for distance learning, preparing school assignments, participating in clubs, searching for educational materials, and maintaining contact with classmates, teachers, and loved ones.
The project is being implemented by the Ukrainian Foundation “Mriya”, Forces of Recovery Ukraine, Ukrainian Protection and Development Fund, and Ukraine Friends. Each organization participates in different parts of the process so that the assistance reaches specific families and is ready for use by children.
The initiative plans to donate 100 laptops and 40 tablets to children from different regions of Ukraine. The first stage in Kyiv marked the beginning of a broader program that should reach families of fallen servicemen outside the capital.
The devices arrive from the United States thanks to the Ukraine Friends team, which cooperates with American companies. After that, Ukrainian partners coordinate the search for families, organize logistics, check the children’s needs, and prepare the equipment for transfer.
This approach allows families to receive not random items, but devices that can be used immediately for learning and communication. For children who are struggling to maintain a normal life after losing a parent, access to a laptop or tablet can be important every day.
Among the recipients were the children of fallen soldiers Artem Zhuravsky, Serhiy Pagas, Volodymyr Yarosh, Dmytro Karpenko, and other Ukrainian defenders. Behind each donation is a separate family story in which a child lives with the loss of a person who was there for them in studies, sports, conversations, jokes, and daily care.
For some children, such support means the opportunity to continue their education without technical barriers, for others, it is a way to stay in touch with friends and teachers, and for families, it is a sign of attention to the needs that arise after the death of a loved one in the war.
What project participants say
CEO of Ukraine Friends Ukraine Joe Sullivan explained that for such children, a laptop means access to education, communication, and a sense of more stable everyday life. According to him, uniting partners around a common goal makes it possible to provide children with tools that help them learn and move on.
The founder of the Ukrainian Foundation “Mriya” Yuriy Gudymenko emphasized that support for the families of fallen soldiers should be tangible in real life. He emphasized that the transferred technology helps children learn, maintain connections, stay included in life, and make plans for the future.
The transfer of laptops and tablets does not change the loss experienced by these families, but it covers a specific need that the child faces in learning and everyday communication. At a time when education often depends on access to digital tools, technology becomes a way for a schoolchild to stay in the learning process and not fall out of the circle of peers.
